What you should be doing and why?

In order to achieve or maintain physical fitness you need to be taking moderate exercise on a regular basis, leading to a mixture of moderate and vigorous exercise, at least three times a week.

What is physical fitness?

Here are three definitions:

“A complete state of mental, physical and social well being, not merely the absence of disease”
“A state of well being that provides optimal performance”
“Attributes related to how well one performs physical activity”

It is in effect being able to perform all your daily tasks with ease.

Now one could argue that enjoying a sedentary lifestyle could fulfill these criteria, however sedentary people soon find that getting out of the sofa or bath becomes a problem, running for the ubiquitous bus becomes unfeasible and soon other medical problems arise.

If we don’t exercise regularly we will function less effectively and are at risk of not only the well documented medical problems such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes but also increased stress, relationship problems, reduced circle of friends and impaired work performance to name but a few.

We tend to take health and fitness for granted when we are young and only realise it slipping away when ill heath catches up with us or we gradually become aware of limitations to our physical ability. It is not necessary to slow down as we get older, just because Premiership football may be beyond us we can all be active, healthy and full of energy.

As we get older it becomes more important to look after ourselves as we all find it more difficult the later we leave it to take action. That said, Personal Training can also extend to helping the elderly get out of the chair, lift the kettle, or climb the stairs. My job is to help you attain your physical goals, the fact that those goals may become more mundane with age makes them no less important.

We all hear the of story of the man who smoked 20 woodbines a day until the day he died aged 94, but what we don’t hear are the endless less glamorous premature deaths brought on by poor lifestyles.

I am fully aware that this sounds like preaching and my wife will tell me this is not what people want to hear and the English react against pontificating, but I know how exercise can be the basis of a more fulfilling lifestyle and I want to help you achieve that.
